Korn's Dubstep Sound Heavier than most Electronica

The path of totality — not the kind that involves a mountaintop guru — involves a lot of subsonic bass.

Korn's adventurous new album, “The Path of Totality,” dives headfirst into the dubstep and electronica craze.

Guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal it's not so radical of a departure for the nu-metal band that headlines Day 2 of Siesta Fest at HemisFair Park tonight with Sluggo and JDevil. Gates open at 7 p.m.

“When I think about the beginning of the band, when I think about the elements that inspired us, which was basically us taking metal and mixing it with hip-hop, I don't really think this is any different,” Shaffer said about the dance floor-friendly elements.

“It's just a fresh take on what we've been doing. And we've always been sort of a band to push the envelope of creativity and just see what other elements we can include in this band without diluting too much of the original sound.”

The new record, inspired by singer Jonathan Davis' discovery of (some might say, obsession with) Skrillex's music, features several guest artists including Exision, Noisia, Kill The Noise and Downlink.
